There are over 3 million visitor trips taken to Santa Cruz County each year. Many visitors turn to the official destination marketing organization for the county for travel resources and information. The Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council (CVC) offers marketing opportunities at a variety of levels to accommodate budgets of all sizes. In addition to a presence on the www.santacruzcounty.travel website, the CVC offers sponsorship opportunities with the annual Official Santa Cruz County Traveler's Guide, at the seasonal Beach Area Visitor Center, and other targeted marketing programs like the Wedding and Conference web listing marketing programs. The CVC also offers a Partner Profile Video Marketing Program which provides CVC marketing partners the opportunity to have their venue or business featured in a professionally produced profile video.
Tourism Marketing District
In June of 2010 Santa Cruz County joined many other tourism destinations throughout California in establishing a Tourism Marketing District (TMD), sometimes referred to as a Tourism Business Improvement District. The action taken by the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors finalized the District which includes the unincorporated areas of the County as well as the cities of Scotts Valley, Capitola, Santa Cruz and Watsonville. Each City Council gave their consent through a resolution to be part of the countywide effort. Before the action was brought before the County or the Cities, the majority of the lodging industry signed an official petition supporting the initiative. The countywide TMD will benefit local Santa Cruz County residents, businesses and government by generating locally collected taxes related to tourism spending, supporting hundreds of local businesses and helping to keep residents employed. The focus of the district is specifically to increase overnight visitation, particularly during the non-summer months. Any lodging property or vacation rental company representing six or more units and operating within Santa Cruz County is included in the TMD. The Santa Cruz County Conference and Visitors Council has been identified as the implementing agency for the TMD marketing program. The District is funded through a lodging property assessment; $1.50 for properties with thirty or more units/rooms, $1.00 for units with fewer than thirty rooms and more than five.
